AN auction of promises has raised thousands of pounds for St Richard’s Hospice.

The event, at the Elms School in Colwall, was attended by more than 120 people and included a reception and pig roast.

Among the promises included a weekend in London, tickets for the Centre Court at Wimbledon, two weeks in a holiday home in South Africa, a day at Malvern Spa and a day’s fly fishing. The event raised £17,625.

Jane Poels of the organising committee said: “We are delighted to have raised so much money for the wonderful work done by St Richard’s and would like to say a huge thank-you to all who contributed to the event and helped make the evening such a success.”

Rachel Jones of the hospice said: “We are absolutely delighted that after months of planning and a great deal of hard work, the committee put on a splendid evening and an incredible £17,625 was raised for our patient care.

"Everyone who came along was so keen to support the hospice and we would like to thank everyone who bid in the auction and gave so generously to the raffle, as well as everyone who donated items and supported the evening in so many ways."
