A 69-YEAR-OLD radio DJ has written a rap song for Easter, which school pupils will perform in church.

Eve Robertson, who lives in Knightwick, Malvern, hosts a Sunday morning Christian praise show at her online community station, Longside Radio, between 8 and 9am.

She was thinking about Easter when the idea of writing a rap about the resurrection of Jesus came to her.

She said: “It’s a bit more modern and upbeat, there is a chorus to it so you can sing along.”

The song will be performed and recorded by students at Martley CE Primary School, who will rap the track at their Easter service at St Peter’s Church in Martley.

They are currently in the final stages of rehearsal.

Ms Robertson said “We are hoping to get a sound recorder who can get a recording of fairly good quality. They are quite a progressive school so I think they will enjoy it. We are hoping that they will be able to perform it on the radio.”

Ms Robertson, who is originally from Hong Kong, has worked as a DJ for Longside Radio, a non-profit community station in Martley, for around six months.

“I always make notes throughout the week about things to talk about during the show, and songs,” she said. “I also like to talk about things going on in the community, because they do all sorts of things. We are are an area of geographical interest – there are some interesting talks and there are many beautiful walks”

Ms Robertson plays a range of music on her show, from Christian songs to mainstream hits. She also takes requests.

“I played ‘Praise You’ by Fat Boy Slim a while ago,” she said. “Praise isn’t just about praising God, it’s about our praise for each other as well, which I think is important. People have done all sorts of covers of religious and semi religious songs, it’s not just hymns.”

She said she has always written songs, but this is her first rap track. She has also penned a musical about her mother’s life in Hong Kong, a book and a children’s story.

Ms Robertson said she loved being a radio DJ and that the station is looking for more volunteers: “If anyone is interested in getting involved, we are always looking for people to help out.”
