A WOMAN who almost died from meningitis as a baby has reunited with the doctor who saved her life.

Alexandra Underwood, of Malvern Link, was only six-months-old when Dr Radley spotted that she had meningitis and ensured she received the proper treatment.

The 28-year-old met up with Dr Radley last month while preparing for her 10.5-mile sponsored run in aid of Meningitis Now.

She raised almost £1,000 for the charity through the Tough Mudder Midlands run in Grantham, Lincolnshire, on Saturday, May 20.

She said: "Dr Radley's been my doctor since I was a baby. He only retired about two years ago.

"This is the man who saved my life. He is a fantastic doctor and a wonderful character, I’ll forever be in his debt.

"Although I can't remember it [having meningitis] it was a harrowing experience for my parents.

"I feel truly blessed to come out unscathed and I am just paying back what I can."

Ms Underwood, who is a marketing coordinator for Malvern College Enterprises, bumped into her former GP while she was working at Malvern Active.

"It was by chance I found out he was a member. He was going for a swim," she said.

"[It was] a very happy coincidence. I organised to do the run prior to him joining."

Ms Underwood said the sponsored run included overcoming a number of obstacles including electrified cables and a skip filled with ice and water.

She said it was a tough challenge but managed to get through it by thinking of those who have been affected by meningitis.
