PUPILS from Colwall CE Primary School pupils enjoyed a recent visit to the site in Mill Lane where the village's new school is to be built.

The children helped to break ground on the construction site during a special ceremony attended by Herefordshire Council and school officials, and representatives of contractor Kier Construction.

Cllr Jonathan Lester, the county council's cabinet member for young people and children’s wellbeing, said: “I was delighted to meet the children from Colwall CE Primary School and share in their excitement at seeing the site of their new school.

“We are committed to ensuring our county’s children have the best start in life and education plays a crucial role in that. It’s essential that Colwall has a school that is modern, sustainable and fit for purpose to ensure educational excellence now and in the future.

“I look forward to seeing the school when it’s finished towards the end of the year.”

The new school is being built as a replacement for the existing school, which became unusable because of damp problems that could not be fixed.

The school has been housed in temporary accommodation on the playing field of the old school since September 2014.
