A MORGAN sports car has been 'written off' after crashing through a wall and into a campervan, according to a resident.

The campervan owner planned to go on a family holiday in the van later this month but this now looks unlikely as his vehicle was heavily damaged in the incident.

It is thought that a Morgan test driver was behind the wheel when it crashed.

The incident happened at about 8.45am this morning (March 1) in Madresfield Road, Malvern, just a few miles from the Morgan factory.

Morgan confirmed that the Aero 8, which has a starting price of £85,000, was from the factory in Pickersleigh Road, Malvern.

Will Jones, 44, said: “We were going on holiday in three weeks’ time in the campervan.

“We were planning to go to Hadrian’s Wall. My daughter is home educated and it was a history trip.

“But I don’t know what we will do now. The insurance people think it’s a write-off. It [the Morgan] hammered into the van.

“Pieces of stone from the wall were thrown about three metres. It would have gone into our house if the van wasn’t there.”

The resident does not know how much it will cost to rebuild the wall outside his home.

He said the van cost £16,500 when he and his wife bought it three years ago.

The graphic designer added that they planned to take their seven-year-old daughter to Rome in the van, on another history trip later this year.

“My wife and I are both self-employed and holidays are a big deal. We saved up for two years to buy our van and now it’s ruined. I’m a bit annoyed,” he said.

Mr Jones added that the Morgan was also a ‘complete write-off’ after the crash.

“The flex in the body work has taken the top of the roof away from the front of the windscreen,” he said.

He also said that while he was cleaning up the wreckage a vehicle ‘bombed’ past him at 50 miles-per-hour.

“It’s a 30 miles-per-hour road. I’m really angry with this road. Every time I come out I see someone speeding,” he said.

“I wrote to Harriett Baldwin [MP for West Worcestershire] in February and rang the office again today.

“I want to see some road slowing measures put in place on this road. Speed bumps or even a speed camera.

“I don’t care, make people think twice about seeing this long straight road, flooring it and potentially killing someone.”

Janet Jones, 53, who lives next door to the owner, said: “I woke up and heard a large bang.

“I thought it was a postman and jumped out of bed and by the time I got outside the driver was out.

“He wasn’t hurt. He looked quite in shock. The airbags had blown.

“He said he felt the prop shaft had dropped and then it veered to the right and crashed.

“My thought was I’m thankful no one was hurt walking down the road as it is so busy.”

A spokesman for Morgan said they were aware of the incident and were carrying out an internal investigation.

They could not confirm what happened to the car, whether it was a Morgan test driver, or if the vehicle is a write off.
