ROADWORKS in the centre of Malvern have resumed after a break for the Christmas and New Year holiday.

The work was originally started at the end of October last year, but was postponed after protests from town traders about the impact on their businesses in the run-up to Christmas.

The work, intended to replace underground cables at the junction of Church Street, started up again on Tuesday and is projected to last four weeks.

The work attracted adverse comment after the four-way temporary traffic lights set up at the junction cause tailbacks among drivers.

And traders in the town centre complained that the work was being carried out during one of the busiest times of the business year.

Cllr Marcus Hart, cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: "The works were halted over the Christmas period to allow local shoppers better access to the road at this busy time. Works have now recommenced and we hope them to be finished in the first week of February."
