MALVERN'S favourite carols were revealed at the weekend, thanks to local choir, the Hills Singers.

The choir asked Malvern residents to nominate their seasonal favourites ahead of its concert at the Coach House Theatre, Grange Road, on Sunday.

Over 600 votes were cast and 111 carols were named in the survey with the top four being sung at the concert.

Sarah Musgrave, the choir's concert manager, said: "In fourth place was Away in a Manger, beaten to the top three by Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

"In second place came In the Bleak Midwinter. Some specified the familiar Holst tune to this carol, whilst others specified the choral setting by Harold Darke. The Singers cleverly combined both versions in their performance on Sunday afternoon.

"The number one carol was a clear winner, with Silent Night taking that position. The survey concluded that in this area, although there was a number of modern carols and songs named, the traditional carols are the most well loved. Enjoy them all this season and many thanks to all who voted."

The Hills Singers present another concert featuring a varied programme of Christmas music at Croome Church on Saturday, December 17, at 3pm. Tickets are available from the National Trust on 01905 371006 and include seasonal refreshments served afterwards in the visitors centre.
