UPTON Blues Festival is sponsoring an event to select the UK contender in an international blues challenge.

The winner of the Blues Night of the Year will represent the UK in the European and International Blues Challenges.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 12, in The Robin 2 in Bilston, near Birmingham.

Oliver Carpenter, trustee of Upton Blues Festival, says the festival is pleased to sponsor the night.

"With this year's challenge being held in our heartland we wanted to make sure we were supporting the UK Blues Federation on the night," he said.

"Upton shows how live blues can be mainstream and attract all ages and types of people to revel in the atmosphere it creates.

“The line up at the UK Blues Challenge is testament to the quality, vibrancy and broad spectrum of blues in Britain and spreading the word by bringing the best together is good for everyone who wants to build blues in all its wondrous variation.”

Upton Blues Festival draws in 20,000 visitors and contributes almost £1m to the local economy, according to a festival spokesman.

The free festival is held on the third weekend of July and features more than 130 performances.
