STAFF and supporters at a Worcestershire sports centre have raised almost £1,500 for charity during a 10-month fundraising campaign.
MSJ Sports and Fitness centre, in Barnards Green Road, Malvern, organised gym challenges, cake sales and even Santa circuit runs to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, making a total of £1,425.
Fiona Zelley, sports centre instructor and the coordinator of the charity fundraising, said: “MSJ Sports Centre wanted to show our support for the Alzheimer’s Society, as it is widely recognised that exercise can have a positive effect on people living with dementia.
"Currently, 850,000 people in the UK have a form of dementia, and in less than a decade this number will reach 1 million.
“Dementia appears to be on the increase, and as the UK becomes an ageing population, it should become a higher priority on the national agenda,” she said.
Emma Dowler, community fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society said: “We are delighted that MSJ Sports has raised such a fantastic amount for Alzheimer’s Society.”
