A VICTORY tea party was held at a Malvern school to mark the end of the pupils' topic on World War Two.

Year 3 and 4 pupils from St. Matthias Primary School invited veterans Eric Tipping from Worcester and Barry Freeman from Stourbridge to be special guests at the event.

The celebration started with a guard of honour to welcome the two war heroes, who walked between lines of clapping children to kick off the event.

The men were given places at the top table with flowers and table mats designed and made by the pupils.

At the event, children shared their learning, talking about the key events and facts from the war, reciting poems about the Blitz and evacuation as well as reading out letters they had written as though they themselves had been evacuees.

The children also sang songs such as We’re doing our bit for the Nation, We’re going to the Country and White cliffs of Dover as well as performing a moving dance about the Blitz.

The children then thanked Mr Tipping and Mr Freeman for their service and presented them with gifts, before holding a minute's silence.

Tracey Hodgkins, Year 3 teacher, said: "The afternoon was truly moving with children not only showing off all that they have learnt and understood about this important time in our history but showing their appreciation and respect for the two war heroes."

The tea party took place on Thursday, July 14.
