ARMED police broke into a home after reports of men fighting with knives in a Malvern road.

Three offenders were believed to have broken into a semi-detached home with a chainsaw before fleeing the scene in a silver Volvo saloon.

Police say they do not know if anyone was injured - but reassured people it was an "isolated incident."

They sent firearms officers and police dogs to the scene and at least six police vehicles were on scene at one point.

One neighbour, who didn't want to be named, said: "It all started at 11am.

"I looked out of the window and there were some guys fighting with knives and they fell into my neighbour's garden.

"There has been quite an influx of police around here.

"They also broke into the house to see if anyone was still in there."

Neighbours said they had heard the noise of what they thought was a strimmer before becoming aware that a fight was in progress.

Another neighbour, who also asked not to be named, said: "I heard some lads came in, they chainsawed the door, they went in and robbed him.

"They came back out and went off.

"It's disgusting that this is going on."

Inspector Andy Smith said: "Officers are currently in attendance at a property on Belmont Road, Malvern.

"This follows reports of a disturbance at approximately 11.05am this morning.

"It is believed that the property was broken into using a chainsaw, and that three offenders left the scene in a silver Volvo saloon.

"Specially trained officers were also in attendance while the scene was assessed.

"It is not known at this time if there was anybody injured in the incident.

"Investigations are ongoing, but we would like to reassure the public that this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no wider threat.

"If anyone has information please contact us on 101 quoting incident reference number 187s of Wednesday 22 June."

A gas leak was also reported at the property after the disturbance.

A crew from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were asked to attend by police to ensure the scene was safe.

A spokesman said the gas was isolated internally.

National Grid was also there while a worker from Fortis Living, which owns the property, was on scene to board up the broken door.

No one has been arrested.
