A SUCCESSFUL charity auction held in Leigh Sinton has managed to raise more than £3,000.

The auction was held at the Royal Oak, in Malvern Road, on Saturday, May 14, and more than 100 people attended the event, which included a BBQ.

Items in the auction included tickets to West Midland Safari Park, a three-course meal at The Talbot in Knightwick, a voucher for clothing from Cox of Malvern, a champagne hamper from Listers Audi, Worcester Warriors rugby tickets, a day for two at Malvern Spa and gardening time from Manor Estates.

A total of £3,200 was raised in support of Andrew Whalley's charity challenge. The Malvern resident is currently in training to cycle 1,000 miles from John O'Groats to Lands End next month, in a group of five also including Paul Corbett, Richard Capper, Roger Ryman and Gary Ringrose.

Money raised from the auction, and Mr Whalley's cycle ride, is being donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association - the charity which works to improve care and support for people with motor neurone disease, and funding research to find a cure.

Mr Corbett is raising money for Prostate Cancer, while Richard Capper is fundraising for Cancer Research UK.

Organisers of the auction wanted to thank everyone who turned up, Caroline and Colin and other staff at the Royal Oak, and local businesses for their generosity in donating items for the auction, and bidding on the night.
