A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was stabbed.

Officers from West Mercia Police were called to Cusop Close in Hereford at about 6.45pm yesterday (Sunday May 15), where it was reported that a 51-year-old man had been stabbed whilst sitting inside a car.

Ambulance staff were already in attendance when police arrived.

The man was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham where he has undergone surgery.

His condition at this time is said to be serious but stable.

A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody.

Two knives were recovered at the scene.

Officers carried out reassurance patrols last night and will continue in the area today.

Det Sgt Mark Jinks said: "This was a contained incident, not connected to any other ongoing investigations, and I would like to reassure members of the public that there is no threat to anyone else.

"The victim has suffered serious injuries but at this stage they are not believed to be life threatening.

"We are in the early stages of the investigation and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information which would help us to establish exactly what happened and why."
