EDDIE the Eagle is to land in Worcestershire to speak at a charity golf day.

He will be the VIP guest at the annual CG5 golf day at Bransford Golf Club on Friday, July 15, where he will be revealing the story behind his time as Britain's favourite underdog and what it's like to have a film made about you.

Apprentice ski jumper Eddie Edwards took the world by storm when he became the first person to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping at the 1988 Winter games in Calgary and now a film starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman has been released documenting his remarkable achievement.

The golf event is raising money for CG5, a charitable organisation which helps young able-bodied or disabled individuals under the age of 21, to participate, recognise their potential or reach an elite level in their chosen sport. Organisers decided Eddie, now 52, was the perfect after dinner speaker due to his own arduous sporting journey and his relentless pursuit of success.

The golf day, sponsored by Feckenham-based security system firm AMS Access, is the second golf day and fourth large-scale event for non-profit GC5 since it was founded in March 2015. It is run by trustees Steve Edwards, Simon Secretan, Rob March and former Worcester Warriors lock Craig Gillies.

Steve Edwards said: "We are delighted to have Eddie come to Worcestershire and speak at our event, especially as a new generation of fans are going to learn what a brilliant sportsman and character he is thanks to the new film. He is a fantastic example of someone who has worked incredibly hard to reach their goal, which is exactly the kind of message CG5 wants to get across to the young sports men and women of Worcestershire.”

Packages are available for sponsors, individuals or groups of golfers. Non-golfers are welcome to join for the evening event which will include a meal, comedian and other entertainment. To book tickets, or for further information about CG5, visit www.cg5.org.uk.
