AN invite to a special tea party for people born in the same year as the Queen is proving popular in Worcestershire.

The Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Holcroft, and the Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Roger Knight, are teaming up to throw a 'Tea for the Queen' party to mark the Queen's upcoming 90th birthday celebrations.

It will take place at the Guildhall in Worcester from 3pm until 5pm on Saturday, June 11 - the date of the Queen’s official birthday - and anyone from the county also celebrating their 90th birthday this year is being encouraged to apply to attend.

Applications opened earlier this week and Rob Byrne, spokesman for Worcester City Council, said there has already been a swell of interest.

"We have had applications absolutely flooding in," he said.

Applications to attend Tea for the Queen are being accepted until Friday, May 6.

Application forms are available at local libraries and online at worcester.gov.uk, malvernhills.gov.uk and wychavon.gov.uk.

Completed forms should be e-mailed to civicoffice@worcester.gov.uk or posted to: Tea Party for the Queen, Guildhall, High Street, Worcester.
