HUNDREDS of pounds have already been donated to campaigns set up in memory of tragic Worcester teenager Sean Stevens.

As we reported, three separate fundraising campaigns have been set up in memory of Mr Stevens, 17, who died at about 11.15pm on Thursday night after being pulled from the city's canal.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with manslaughter and assaulting two police officers.

He is due to re-appear at court on Wednesday after being granted bail.

One fundraising campaign, set up by one of Mr Stevens' friends Christina Lambourne, is aiming to raise £1,000 for a memorial bench at Perdiswell canal bridge, where the tragedy took place.

By this afternoon (Monday) supporters had already donated more than £550.

Another campaign, set up by Tiffany Smith, is aiming to raise £500 for another memorial bench, in Pershore Park, near where Mr Stevens used to live.

The third campaign has been set up by Lynne Essex, who is aiming to raise £400 towards Mr Stevens' funeral costs.

Police were called to the Worcester to Birmingham canal at the Bilford Road bridge, Perdiswell, at 8.50pm on Thursday evening.

After Mr Stevens ended up in the canal one person jumped into the water to rescue him, but both had to be pulled out by emergency services.

Both of them went to hospital but by that stage Mr Stevens had already suffered a cardiac arrest.

Worcester News readers continue to pay tribute to Mr Stevens following his death.
