PLANS to sell off two buildings owned by Malvern Hills District Council were approved by the council's executive committee this week.

The buildings are at 10 and 12 Priory Road, next to the Splash leisure pool. Originally they provided housing accommodation, then more recently they were used as office space, but in recent years they have stood vacant.

At Tuesday's committee meeting, members heard that the site had been retained in case there were ever any plans to expand the Splash.

However, Freedom Leisure, which operates the Splash, says it currently has no plans to expand the leisure complex, which includes a two pools, a gym, an exercise studio, sauna and steam room.

In August last year, the council received an approach by a local developer who was interested in buying the site, part of Malvern's conservation area, for a housing development.

However, two executive committee members say they will be trying to have the decision called in to be reconsidered.

Cllr Julian Roskams said: "Cllr Mick Davies and myself are unhappy that this was not put out to competitive tender, and we would like to see in called in to full council to be reconsidered."
