A DRUNKEN dad cut his hands punching a window before making 'sexual' comments to two police officers and his mum.

Samuel Hughes also upset patients and staff when his 'disgusting' behaviour continued at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester where he needed treatment for his injured hand, swearing and spitting on a seat.

Hughes, a father-of-three, admitted criminal damage and disorderly conduct after abusive behaviour when he appeared before magistrates in Worcester on Friday.

The 23-year-old of Wren Avenue, Malvern, broke a window pane belonging to Steven Dun-Massey on February 20, causing £100 worth of damage.

Police were initially called to Taylors Lane in Worcester to reports of the defendant 'covered in blood, punching windows, walls and signs'.

Jackie Rogers, prosecuting, said when officers arrived they found Hughes sitting on some stairs with an open wound to his right hand which was bleeding and an item of clothing wrapped around the injury after he smashed the window of an unoccupied house.

When police arrived Hughes was taken to A&E at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester.

Mrs Rogers said: "He was verbally abusive towards police and ambulance staff.

"He began to make comments to the police officers which were abusive and sexual in nature.

"When he arrived at A&E he was joined by his mother and police warned him he was entering a public building and must behave himself.

"He continued being abusive and swearing. Once inside A&E his behaviour continued to be aggressive and abusive, making offensive sexual comments towards them.

"At times members of the public were looking alarmed and shocked at what they were witnessing."

During one incident Hughes spat phlegm onto the back of a seat in front of him.

"One patient commented on how disgusting that was" said Mrs Rogers.

Hughes was taken to Worcester Police Station accompanied by his mother where he continued to be abusive.

Mrs Rogers added: "The abuse was directed towards his mother and was sexual in nature."

Blaise Shervington, defending, said at the time Hughes had been homeless and was 'sofa surfing' at the homes of various friends.

He added: "He had been drinking on this particular night. He stands before you most embarrassed for his actions.

"He's a hard-working family man in full-time employment.

"He wasn't taking his medication for ADHD at the time."

For his threatening or abusive words or behaviour he was fined £160 and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and for the criminal damage he was handed a conditional discharge for 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay £135 costs and £100 compensation for the broken window.
