A CONTROVERSIAL scheme to build homes on a field on the northern edge of Malvern go before planners next week.

BDM Developments has put in an application to build up to 33 houses on the site off Broadlands Drive.

But the scheme has proved contentious, with dozens of local resident writing to Malvern Hills District Council to voice their objections.

Among their worries are highways safety, with many people saying that the local road network is inadequate for the increased traffic the new development would generate.

There are also worries that the site is not adequately drained, with neighbouring properties in Broadland Drive facing existing drainage problems, and that the development impinges on the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

However, the council planning officers say the site is allocated for development in the South Worcestershire Development Plan, and the application should be approved.

The scheme is on the agenda when the council's southern area development management committee meets on Wednesday, March 23. The meeting is at the Council Chamber, Avenue Road, at 7pm.
