THE Christmas break may have been spent caring for their daughter in hospital but Georgie Gibbs' family are ready to start fundraising again.

Three-year-old Georgie, who has spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, is now back home and feeling better so it is all system's go for the campaign to send her to America for a selective dorsal rhizotomy to help her walk unaided.

Mum Clare Gibbs said she was looking forward to the upcoming events but has been finding it hard to cope with the demands of caring for two children, one who is disabled, work and fundraising.

She is hoping someone may be able to step forward and help out with admin and promotion to take away some of the stress.

Mrs Gibbs, from St John's, said: "Georgie was in hospital over the Christmas period with a nasty flu bug and water infection and I've had a lot of people asking how she is.

"I'm happy to say she is making a good recovery now and did have a lovely, relaxing Christmas despite being poorly.

"However, I am struggling from an admin point of view to keep up with the enquiries and promoting events so we are hoping someone may volunteer to help.

"I need to keep the momentum going but last night I was up until 1.30am trying to get some things done for HelpGeorgie and I'm knackered."

The first task of the new year will also be collecting outstanding money from people who have held events and will hopefully move the three-year-old closer to the £60,000 total she needs for an operation to help her walk unaided.

The family announced it had managed to raise over half the money since October which will pay for Georgie, who has spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, to have a selective dorsal rhizotomy.

But Mrs Gibbs has not given up hope that Georgie may still have the operation at Bristol Royal Children's Hospital and is pressuring NHS England and the hospital for an answer.

"There have been lots of emotions over Christmas, scary emotions.

"I've been questioning if we are doing the right thing.

"The closer we get to the total, the more nervous I am about putting my child through this operation and causing distress."

The first fundraiser of the year will take place at The Bell in St John's with a quiz evening on Friday from 8pm.

A Subaru launch weekend will be held at Pershore Sports and Prestige on Pershore Road, Stoulton, near Worcester on Saturday, January 16 and Sunday, January 17. The garage will donate £500 to the HelpGeorgie appeal for every new Subaru sold during January.

HelpGeorgie is also looking forward to an evening with Ricky Hatton at Sixways on Friday, April 8 with information and tickets available from boxfroguk.com.

A 13-course curry night will be held at Pasha, St John's, on Thursday, January 28 with tickets costing £12.
