ROADS in Worcestershire are still feeling the effects of Storm Frank.

The weather may be bright and dry for the last day of 2015 but the rising river levels have affected roads in the county.

The road is closed at Walcot Lane ford, near Pershore, where a car was stuck in flooded waters yesterday.

Luckily, the driver managed to free themselves from the car and get to safety.

Part of Draycott Lane in Kempsey is also submerged in flood water.

New Street in Upton-upon-Severn is closed due to flooding after Backfields Lane.

The New Street flood gate is closed along with some of the flood gates on Waterside.

All shops and businesses remain open in Upton town centre.

Shell Ford, near Droitwich, is also flooded having risen two foot in two days.

West Mercia Police is warning drivers to not put themselves and others at risk by driving through floodwater.

A spokesman said: "We cannot stress strongly enough the importance of adhering to road closures and not driving through flooded fords, even if you believe your car is big enough to get through.

"We appreciate that it can be frustrating when you need to find an alternative route for your journey, but the closures are in place for good reason and are there to keep you and your vehicle safe."

Advice for drivers:

  • Listen out for local news bulletins before setting off, to keep up-to-date with road closures, flooding and forecasts
  • Stopping distances increase on wet roads. You should double the distance you leave between your vehicle and the car in front
  • Never try and drive through fast-moving water, such as a flooded ford - you and your car could easily be swept away by the current. The depth of water at a ford and its flow rate can change with the weather
  • Be wary of high winds and the extra risks that they may bring
  • In heavy rain, use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced
  • If your windscreen wipers are worn or damaged, replace them to improve visibility in heavy rain
  • Be considerate and take extra care if driving through standing water alongside pedestrians or cyclists
  • Dry your brakes after driving through standing water, by using them gently
  • Even when the rain stops, roads may remain wet and flooded for several days
