CHRISTMAS is now right around the corner but there's still time to find that perfect gift for someone thanks to the diverse and exciting independent businesses the town can boast.

But it's not just shopping that can entertain the crowds in the Malvern this month, there's also a lot to do and see in the run-up to the big day- and while you're checking out the sites or watching a show in the famous theatres, why not pop into a store to pick up a last-minute gift?

There are a host of shows coming up at the theatres this weekend, and throughout next week too, Beyond the Barricade- a spectacle of Broadway hits- which goes ahead tonight and a screening of film "The Winter's Tale" on Thursday, December 24.

Colwall Village Hall is also getting in on the music act, and will be hosting the Roving Crows on Saturday (tomorrow).

Tonight (Friday) also sees Linda Tolchard's Christmas by Candlelight Concert go ahead at Christ Church, in Avenue Road.

All of these could easily be combined with a look around the shops beforehand, and maybe a bite to eat at some of Malvern's independent cafes, to show support to the independent traders that make Malvern what it is.

Traders and shoppers have been joining our drive to encourage people to shop local during the festive season.

All you have to do is add the hashtag #VeryMalvern to your social media posts, so our search engines can find them.

We them share them across our social media platforms, which brings them to a much larger audience.

And if you want to show your support for our campaign, simply download our exclusive poster at scribd. com/doc/289919107/Very- Malvern-Poster and display it in your shop.

If that's not enough, Malvern looks simply stunning now that the lights have been switched on and there is always a pleasant atmosphere.

Iapetus Gallery certainly agrees too, tweeting: "Lovely atmosphere on Belle Vue Terrace, Gt Malvern today.

"Christmas shopping, Mince pies, man crèche, Narnia pub, kid’s crafts, mulled wine."

Malvern Hills District Council is offering free parking at all its car parks each Friday and Saturday in the run-up to Christmas.
