WHILE work to renovate the roof continues of Christ Church in Malvern, there have also been changes inside the church.

A new demountable stage has been installed, which will prove very useful for the church's busy programme of concerts and other events.

The Malvern Gazette's appeal fund for the new roof now stands at £6,046. And it's not too late to play your part in the appeal, by using the coupon on this page to sponsor a tile in commemoration of a loved one or a significant event.

Churchwarden Angela Green said: "Unfortunately there was a delay in starting the side aisles of the lower roofs but that is now happening and work is still continuing in the chancel roof. The builders tell us we are still on schedule to complete though.

"Some scaffolding has been removed and some coping stones replaced by the stonemason, Stephen Geraghty, who has worked tirelessly to fix them in place in time, and our thanks go to him.

"It is forecast to be a very windy week but work is continuing on the chancel roofs and one side is complete with the other due to be finished this week. As soon as the work is done on the lower aisles, the plasterer will be inspecting the inside and making good any areas needed."

She described the new stage as "splendid" and said: "We must give our most sincere thanks to CPS of Doncaster for all their attention to detail to ensure it is perfect for Christ Church.

"They have worked very hard and have taken all our requirements in to account when planning and designing it. The new stage gives us much more flexibility to host performances and we look forward to being able to use it.

"A magnificent £6,046, including Gift Aid, has been raised for our roof fund and we are pleased that donations are still coming through. Please fill in the coupon if you can help, and please remember the Gift Aid tick box. It is a comforting thought to have the names of loved ones there forever to be remembered."
