"A ROBBERY, which has caused considerable sensation in North Malvern, took place on Sunday night between ten and eleven o'clock, when £27 in gold were stolen from a bedroom in Church Cottage, Cowleigh Road, the property of Mr Thos. Williams, the well-known veterinary surgeon, who lodges in the house," reported the Gazette a century ago.

"It appears that Bill Sykes effected an entrance through a bedroom window and broke open two boxes, in one of which was the amount in question, which he carried off.

"We were informed by Mr Williams that those inside only heard a noise as the thief was making his escape when there was a noise of something falling from the window. They at once went outside but could find trace of no-one.

"On examining the box they, however, discovered that the gold had disappeared, and information was given to the police, who have so far made investigations without success."

The paper also reported a collision in Leigh Sinton beween a motor-car and a pony and trap. The pony was injured but the driver, a Miss Lloyd, her sister and a baby, were unhurt despite being thrown out of the trap.
