WORK has begun on a new £1.4m sixth form centre at Hanley Castle High School.

The new centre will provide the school’s growing sixth form with spacious classrooms, a well-equipped library, study rooms for independent learning and an IT hub.

The school received a grant of £1.2 million from the Department for Education for the new Sixth Form Centre and is looking to raise the additional capital through fundraising.

Lindsey Cooke, headmaster, said: "This project has come at just the right time for Hanley Castle.

"We have our best ever students, our best ever results – now we will be able to provide every sixth former with our best ever accommodation and facilities.

"I would like to thank all of those individuals and local businesses who have worked so hard to make our dream a reality."

It is set to be completed in May 2016.

This phase follows a half a million pound investment in new science laboratories and IT systems.
