PEOPLE in Malvern are being urged to keep a caring eye out for hedgehogs this winter.
Malvern Hedgehog Rescue will take in any underweight or small hedgehogs found in the area who might not make it through the colder months.
The group has explained that a hedgehog needs to weigh a minimum of 600g to survive the winter hibernation.
Viv Smith, who runs Malvern Hedgehog Rescue, said: “It is essential that underweight hogs receive expert care in order to survive - they have very special requirements.
“We are very busy with the rescue and are now taking hogs from further afield due to the Ross and Leominster rescues having closed.
“But any small or underweight hogs - whether seen by day or night – can still be brought into the Malvern rescue for the winter as otherwise they will not survive.”
The group is also appealing for donations of meat flavoured cat or dog meat or meat flavoured cat or kitten biscuits, as well as newspapers for bedding.
