PEOPLE are being urged to get their hiking boots on and and scale the Malvern Hills to help fight cancer once again.

This year's sponsored walk, organised by the town's Cancer Research committee, will make its return in October for its 17th event.

Since its forming the event has raised more than £120,000 in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Chairman of Malvern Cancer Research UK Local Committee, Ray Worth, said: "It's a real family event, and it's great to see that we get people from all walks of life taking part.

"It's incredible to see how it's grown over the years, and hopefully this year's event is just as successful. The amount of money it's raised over the years is more than anyone thought possible.

"Cancer affects everybody in some way, and I suppose that's why people do whatever they can to help others."

It will go ahead on Saturday, October 10 from 10am.

The meeting point is the Mill Pond, at Golden Valley, Castlemorton, Malvern.

It will be particularly poignant for Sarah Bowring, who has beaten cancer and will taking part in the walk.

Ms Bowring used to be a lettings manager in Ledbury before she developed breast cancer in January 2011. After 18 weeks of chemotherapy and five weeks of radiotherapy, she beat breast cancer.

Despite the disease changing her life, she has been an avid collector for Cancer Research since.

The 48 year-old, of Hereford, said: "It's been a long journey, as it is for all cancer survivors and it meant I had to completely re-build my life. I can't work as much as I used to.

"Having said that I'm just thankful I'm still here and I'm looking forward to the walk.

"It will be incredibly emotional to see so many people who have survived cancer, or been affected by it, all walking proudly together."
