RSPCA Worcester and Mid-Worcestershire Branch is hosting a unique rehoming event next month in a bid to ensure black cats find new homes.

The charity says it struggles to home black and white rescued cats, and until new homes are found for them it cannot take on anymore rescued cats as there is no room for them.

A spokeswoman for the branch said: "It is hoped cat lovers will come along and meet the rescued cats looking for permanent loving homes.

"We have many black and black and white cats who have been in our care for a long time, but for some unknown reason no one wants to adopt them.

"They are all wonderful in their own way and so deserving of a new and loving home.

"We are appealing to animal lovers who feel they have room in their life and home for a rescued cat, to please consider adopting from the local RSPCA."

The branch currently has more than 30 cats in its care, but is having to use a temporary rehoming centre at Teme Acre until its new branch at The Holdings, Broomhall, Worcester, is built.

The charity says Teme Acre is "full to bursting point" and can't home anymore due to a lack of space, but people adopting cats are only taking on torties, ginger or tabby cats.

Some cats like Sam and Jerry (pictured) do have quite specific requirements for their new home. They are both five years old but are very attached to each other as they came into the RSPCA's care from the same household, and would need to be homed together.

They are both quite shy, would ideally need quiet home where they can grow in confidence.

All cats are vet checked, neutered or spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, wormed and de-flead before going to their new homes.

The rehoming event, titled Black Cat Day, will go ahead on Saturday, October 3, from 11.30am until 2.30pm, at Teme Acre Cattery, Old Road, Worcester, WR2 4BU, next to Old Powick Bridge.
