AN OPEN day held by a lifesaving air ambulance charity raised almost £4,000.

The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity opened the doors to its headquarters at Strensham services near Worcester on Saturday, September 5.

About 2,000 people visited to get a close look at the air ambulances, meet crews and enjoy other fun activities.

The charity’s fundraising and marketing director Jason Levy said: “Our annual open day is a fantastic opportunity for the general public to see our air ambulances and talk to our aircrew.

“It’s also our chance to say thank you to our supporters and volunteers for keeping our life saving service operational.”

“On behalf of Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, I would like to thank everyone who attended the open day, helping us to raise nearly £4,000.

“With no government or national lottery funding, the money raised from events like our open day will fund future life saving missions.”

The organisation covers Worcester, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and the rest of the West Midlands, serving a population of more than five million people and responds to an average of ten calls a day, or 2,000 a year. It costs the organisation £2,500 per mission, and more than £6.5 million a year.
