A Welland dog show which made its return after a one year absence was a huge success, says one of its organisers.

The Fun Dog Show saw more than 60 dogs take part in a range of competitions in the village, as show-goers basked in the scorching sunshine.

People travelled from Malvern, Colwall, Ledbury and more to attend the show on the village’s recreational fields, which raised £500 for a charitable cause.

Organiser Mary Roberts, formerly of Friends of Welland, has confirmed the popular event will be back next year too.

She said: "It went very well and we were very luck with the weather. People seemed pretty pleased to see it back on.

"We're very pleased with it and will be holding it next year too, so it's back again.”

The money will be donated to Welland Church, while a donation will be made to Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter, in Newland.

The winner of the Best Dog in Show competition was a German shepherd called Shelley- she and her owner are from Tyne and Wear.

Emma, a golden retriever was the overall show’s champion after collecting the most points from the various competitions. She is owned by Sophie Albright, of Malvern.

14 year-old Oliver Roberts and his canine friend Swallow won the long-haired dog competition.

The event has been running since the year 2000, and was organised by the Friends of Welland.

Last year, however, the group disbanded and the show didn't go ahead.
