TAILS will be wagging at a popular Welland dog show which is making its return tomorrow (Saturday).

The Fun Dog Show will again see canines take part in all sorts of competitions including waggiest tale, most handsome dog, prettiest female, most appealing eyes and many more- all in the name of charity.

It's not just man's best friend that get to take home the prizes, as competition categories also include best child handler and a tunnel navigating challenge for their human counterparts to take part in too.

The event has been running since the year 2000 and was organised by the Friends of Welland, but did not go ahead last year as it was 2014 in which the group disbanded.

Mary Roberts, one of the original founders of the friends group, has agreed to run the event this time round and says its appeal is that everyone takes home awards and prizes.

Mrs Roberts, of Hook Bank, Welland, said: "It has been done very well in the past here, and we hope to continue that tradition with this event.

"We make it a very fun event, we try and make sure everyone goes home with a rosette and has fun taking part.

"It is nice to see it returning and we hope for a good turn-out. It's usually a well supported event, so it would be nice to see people come out and take part."

Hundreds of dogs and owners have taken part in it over the years, and tomorrow's event is set to go ahead at Welland Recreational Field from 1pm. Registration for the classes will being at 12pm.

Admission is free, but there will be costs of up to £2 to register dogs into competitions.

Dogs must be older than six months to take part.

There will be refreshments served and a raffle at the event too, with proceeds donated to the maintenance of Welland Church and Worcestershire Animal Rescue Centre.

Since it was established, Friends of Welland has raised more than £20,000 for village causes including the erection of a speed sign on one of its main roads, and fixing Welland Primary School's bell.
