PEOPLE in Malvern struggling with anxiety or low mood are invited to a free course helping them develop ways to deal with their problems.
The 11-week course run by Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, which runs mental health services in the county, will help people develop skills to deal with difficult thoughts and feelings and will begin on Tuesday, September 15.
The scheme is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which encourages people to step back and consider their own thoughts while allowing for difficult emotions with the aim of working towards a more meaningful life.
Cognitive behavioural therapist at the trust Katherine Riley said: “This kind of therapy can help people in a number of ways.
“A course can remove the shame of feeling anxious and depressed.
“This course helps people notice and relate differently to their distressing thoughts and feelings so to pursue valued goals in life.
“I would really encourage people to get in touch with us and see if the course is for them.”
The course, which will be held on Tuesday mornings, does not require a GP referral and those interested in taking part will be offered a consultation beforehand to determine if it is right for them.
