VISITORS to Worcester’s historic Commandery this Bank Holiday weekend will find themselves in the middle of preparations for battle.

Throughout the weekend the building in Sidbury will step back in time to 1651 when it was the headquarters of the Royalist army in the English Civil War.

The site will be transformed to a 17th century living camp while visitors will be recruited by Royalist soldiers, experience military training and help man a gun before sniffing out a spy and deciding his fate.

Commandery events organiser Sarah Bourne said she hoped people from Worcester and further afield would visit the building during the Bank Holiday weekend.

"The eve of battle was busy and noisy, with soldiers and citizens apprehensive of what was to come,” she said.

“We want to give all our visitors a taste of what life was like at The Commandery over that fateful time in 1651.”

The Commandery will be open between 10am and 5pm on all three days, from Saturday, August 29 until Bank Holiday Monday, August 31.

Entry to the Commandery is free for Worcester residents on production of a valid council tax bill.
