A crackdown on thefts from vehicles parked in the Malvern Hills car parks has been a success, says police.

Run by Malvern Police and Malvern Hills Conservators, Operation Falcon was launched to provide security and safety advice to those who visit the hills and leave their vehicles parked unattended throughout the month of July.

PC Cliff Green, of Malvern's policing team, says the affect of the initiative means there have been less thefts recorded through the month than before, with only taking place.

He said: "There has been one report of theft from a motor vehicle on the Malvern Hills during July.

"This is less than would normally be anticipated.

"With continued police patrols and the raised awareness of the public in relation to vehicle security, it is expected that vehicle crime on the Malvern Hills car parks will continue to be low and the town will remain a safe place to visit.

"The public have been very receptive and appreciative of this crime prevention and reassurance initiative."

He also said that a number of visitors stated the information had reminded them not to leave property on view in their vehicles, and had returned to their cars to remove items such as sat navs and hand bags.

Steve Bound, director of Malvern Hills Conservators, said he is pleased with the outcome and that the initiative was a success.

During Operation Falcon around 1,000 people received vehicle security advice in the shape of crime prevention leaflets and postcards, along with stickers and air fresheners to remind them motorists to keep their vehicles and possessions safe.
