IN response to the letter from J Kennaway in the Malvern Gazette of July 10 which accused Malvern Hills District Council of cutting funding for Age UK, I would like to set the record straight and point out this letter is both misleading and inaccurate.
Last year some one-off funding from the public health budget of Worcestershire County Council was made available to set up a befriending service in the district.
Malvern Hills District Council then passed this money on to Age UK, which was fully aware the funding was temporary and the county council would not be providing any more money after September 2015.
Malvern Hills District Council continues to support the valuable service Age UK provides to our residents through an annual grant of more than £4,000.

Portfolio holder with responsibility for health and wellbeing
