THE funeral date has been set for a popular father and grandfather who died together with his partner in their swimming pool.

Martin Winfield's funeral will take place at Worcester Crematorium on Friday, July 24 at 1pm and his children want friends and family to make donations to a drowning prevention charity instead of bringing flowers.

The money raised will go to the Royal Life Saving Society UK and donations in Mr Winfield's memory have already raised £235.

We have already reported how the 59-year-old and his partner, Alan Green, were found dead by their three children at the swimming pool of the couple's home in Wichenford on Friday, July 3.

Mr Winfield raised his children in Dines Green, Worcester and was described by his children as 'fantastic', funny and a hands-on dad who 'always had a smile on his face'.

His son Steve Winfield, aged 33, of Washington Street, Arboretum, Worcester, said: "It would be lovely for anyone who knew him to attend if they can.

"We would ask no flowers but a donation to the Royal Life Saving Society UK we have also set up a justgiving page in his memory."

On the justgiving page set up by his children the message reads: "Dad died on July 1 with his partner Alan Green in a tragic accident in their swimming pool and we wanted to support this fantastic charity to help prevent accidents happening again.

"Around 400 people needlessly drown in the UK every year and thousands more suffer injury, some life changing, through near-drowning experiences. Putting this into context, one person dies every 20 hours in the UK."

Concerns were raised when Mr Winfield failed to turn up for work at Reddiplex in Droitwich. Police are not treating the matter as suspicious at this time.

The two men had been due to enter a civil partnership on August 1, after having been together for three years.

Mr Winfield was well known locally as a music lover, DJ and lifelong Spurs fan, and has three children, Steve, Claire and Paul.
