A FORMER mayor of Evesham is turning his hand to charity work.

Cllr Charlie Homer has joined St Richard’s Hospice as a community fundraiser, working to encourage supports to join the charity’s regular giving scheme.

He said he was “delighted” to join the charity.

“I am looking forward to raising awareness within the local community of the important work done by the hospice’s care teams and to encourage local people and businesses to support the hospice so that it can continue to provide compassionate care to patients and their loved ones,” he said.

Cllr Homer was the youngest Mayor in Evesham’s history and wore the chains for a one-year term until May this year. He was also the youngest member ever voted onto Wychavon District Council when he was elected as ward member for Harvington and Norton in 2011, a seat he still holds.

He also previously worked for Warwickshire-based charity Goodwill and Growth, which supports children and communities in Africa affected by HIV, Aids, poverty and violence and is also a trustee for Ourside Youth Association in Evesham and supports a number of other charities.

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care and support for more than 2,600 patients living with life-threatening illnesses and their families every year.

The charity runs a day hospice as well as a 24-hour, 17-bed inpatient unit in Wildwood Drive, Worcester.
