WORCESTER is to get a Royal visit with a difference, when none other than Henry VIII arrives in town.

The booming voice and ample girth of the merry monarch will actually belong to historian and actor, John White, who loves the Faithful City so much, he is making a return visit.

An event spokesman said: "He is returning to Tudor House in Friar Street on Saturday July 18 for a Tudor day, as he enjoyed it so much last year.

"As soon as he is in costume, it is 1544 and King Henry VIII is on his 'Royal Progress', and he has halted at Worcester.

"The King, recently married his new, and sixth, wife, Queen Catherine Parr, and he is in poor health; but he will still recount the events of his long reign, all about his wives and his children and will invite his subjects question him."

Henry VII was King of England from 1509 until his death in 1547. He married his last wife, Catherine Parr, in 1543.

During his final years he suffered from ulcers, boils, gout and possible diabetes. His girth was said to be 54 inches.

As well as meeting his Royal Highness, visitors to Tudor House will be able to chat to his cook, see the food display, and play with Tudor toys and games with the guidance of a female court servant.

Entry to Tudor House Museum in Friar Street is free, a sit-down audience will be £1, and dressing up for a photo will be £1, but other activities will be free.
