A TEAM of barristers and army personnel have set off on a 900-mile cycle trip across the entire length of the UK in an effort to raise £10,000 for a Worcester children’s hospice.

The team set off from Scotland on the John O’Groats to Land’s End ride on Saturday, July 21, on the relay challenge in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The crew visited the Worcester hospice in Bath Road before starting the trip, where army reservist Lieutenant Colonel Scott Coughtrie said he and his teammates were pleased to be able to help out the charity.

“Having spent time with the fabulous staff, families and children at Acorns, we feel honoured to represent their cause,” he said. “The love and care which these children receive is exceptional and it’s all achieved by a dedicated staff who create an atmosphere of joy and happiness.”

The hospice’s community fundraising manager Mandie Fitzgerald said: “This will be a gruelling and inspiring challenge for the team.

“It was great to see them when they visited the hospice and I wish them luck on completing their challenge.

“The money they raise will help Acorns continue to provide the care that is so desperately needed by the children and families we support.”

The Worcester hospice opened its doors ten years ago and has since provided specialist palliative care and support for 465 children and their families across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.
