A WOMAN has criticised a developer for the “horrendous” temporary access road to her property.

Lindsay Clayton, 56, of Russell Close, Powick, has to use an uneven, rocky track to get to her house, after Bovis Homes ripped up and fenced off the original tarmac road to allow drainage works on The Russets development.

The aggrieved resident has expressed fears the access road is too narrow for emergency vehicles and could cause a tragedy if assistance is needed.

She is also angry that the surface is unsuitable for her scooter, meaning she has to push it 75 metres to her front door every day.

But Bovis Homes has claimed it is doing everything practicable to maintain access during the works, which will be completed shortly.

Mrs Clayton said: “The temporary surface is just horrendous for two-wheeled traffic – it is so dangerous and unsuitable.

“The access road is also so narrow that all residents’ safety is now in question, as it is very clear that emergency vehicles would not be able to get into the Close if needed.

“We had one fire in our part of the Close in the recent past and I am sure that the fire service would have something to say about the access in its current state.

“There are children and elderly people living here so it is really important.

“The state of the access road is cutting us off from the outside world.”

She added that the local community “has to live with the mess and noise” of house building in the area and that large industrial vehicles using the neighbourhood are creating problems, including mud on the roads.

A spokesman for Bovis Homes said: "We are currently undertaking drainage connection works, which will be completed shortly.

"We are doing all that is practicable to maintain access past these works while they are ongoing.

"We apologise for any temporary inconvenience that our neighbours may be experiencing but can assure them that this new part of the community is expected to be finished before the end of the year, with the show home and sales office now complete and more than 60 per cent of the 45 new properties already reserved."
