THE sky appears to be the limit for a fast-growing Worcester company which has outshone its competitors to win a prestigious business award and make a few million along the way.

Gtech based in Spetchley, Worcester, has won The Sunday Times Profit Track ‘Ones to Recognise’ Award, building on earlier success after winning the Queens Award for innovation in Enterprise in April.

This latest award presented at a gala dinner on June 16 at the Savoy Hotel, London.

The Sunday Times BDO Profit Track 100 league table ranks Britain’s private companies with the fastest-growing profits over the last three years.

The Profit Track Ones to Recognise is awarded to the business that shows the best potential for profit growth over the next few years.

Companies shortlisted for the Ones to Recognise programme are visited and a national winner is then selected by a judging panel led by serial entrepreneur Luke Johnson, founder and chairman of Risk Capital Partners and former chairman of Pizza Express and Channel 4.

The companies in this year’s Profit Track 100 added more than 24,500 staff in the past three years and now employ almost 76,200 people.

Gtech itself is looking to add 30 new staff if they get permission to build a new headquarters in Worcester.

In a highly competitive market, the popularity of Gtech’s flagship cordless AirRam vacuum has helped propel profits from £27,000 in 2011 to £6.5m last year.

Launched in April 2012, there are now half a million Worcester-designed Gtech AirRam’s cleaning British homes.

Gtech CEO and founder, Nick Grey said: “To be singled out as the ‘Ones to Recognise’ is an achievement I am really proud of.

"Everyone working here at Spetchley goes above-and-beyond what I could ever have expected of them.

"They are a fantastic team and it’s great for Worcester that their company has been recognised by The Queen and The Sunday Times. This is all the more of an achievement given the staff are working out of portable offices on a Spetchley farm.”
