A TEAM of fundraisers who will be trekking across the Worcestershire Way on Friday are hoping for support from local beer drinkers.

Team Zulu, named after the famous film, will be tackling the 34-mile trail to raise money for St Richard's Hospice.

And they have enlisted the support of Callow End-based St George's Brewery, which has created a special Team Zulu beer in their honour.

The beer, a 4.1 per cent summer ale, will be available at the Nag's Head in Malvern, which like the brewery is owned by Duncan Ironmonger. The brewery will be making a donation to the team for each firkin of the beer sold.

Team Zulu founder Tarquin Shaw-Young of Malvern said that over the last five years, they had raised over £10,000 for the hospice and this year's event had already attracted £2,000 in sponsorship.

"We've been out on the hills training, and we're hoping for good weather. We were out last Saturday and at British Camp it was so foggy, we couldn't see our hands in front of our faces," he said.

And he said there was every chance that team members would be popping into the Nag's Head after the walk for a refreshing pint.

He said: "We're grateful to the brewery for agreeing to support us this way, and we hope others can as well."

Last week, Team Zulu members could be heard on Radio 4's Ramblings, when presenter Clare Balding joined them for one of their training walks across the hills.
