A RUNNER has raised more than £1,000 for the YSS Worcestershire Young Carers charity.

Lisa Watters, of Malvern, completed the Virgin Money London Marathon in April and collected £1,165 for the good cause.

She said: “I have always wanted to run the London Marathon and amazingly I managed to get an entry via the ballot for this year’ event.

"To be able to do it in aid of others is an amazing feeling.

"I decided that some good should come out of the pain and suffering I had to go through to get myself around the 26.2-mile course.

"It was an exciting yet terrifying experience to run around the sights of London and I'm proud to have supported a very worthy local charity.

"This was my way of helping the team provide much-needed support, understanding and assistance to raise young carers' self esteem and confidence."

Mary Lewis, YSS Worcestershire Young Carers team manager, added: "We are thrilled to receive this fantastic sum for young carers, which will go towards the activities fund.

"We want to sincerely thank Lisa for running this marathon in aid of our charity."
