HEALTH bosses in Worcestershire are calling on people to pledge to support the county’s army of carers dedicated to supporting those who may not be able to look after themselves.

As part of this week’s national Carer’s Week NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group has vowed to support carers in the county by working to ensure they all have the most flexible working arrangements possible.

The organisation, which is responsible for organising and paying for health services in Worcestershire, is encouraging others in the county to follow suit by pledging to support carers in any way they can.

Carers Week is a UK-wide awareness campaign aiming to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face and this year focuses on supporting them to enable them to best look after their loved ones, while at the same time recognising their individual needs.

The CCG’s chief clinical lead Dr Carl Ellson said: “An event like Carers Week provides us with an opportunity to thank and celebrate the dedication and devotion carers provide on a daily basis.

“The Carers Week pledge is an excellent way of showing your support and to help raise awareness of the great work that carers are doing across south Worcestershire.

“As the age of the population increases, many people are taking on the role of carer to family, friends or neighbours. They do a vital job and without them our health and social care systems could not function.”

Throughout the week Worcestershire Association of Carers will hold a range of information stands at hospitals, GP surgeries and other locations across the county. For more information and a full list of locations visit www.carersworcs.org.uk.
