A SCHOOL will be closed today because of a burst water main.

St Barnabas First and Middle School, in Drakes Broughton near Pershore, announced the news this morning.

According to Worcestershire County Council, the Stonebow Road school has 342 registered pupils.

The school has tweeted: "School is closed today because of a burst water main.

"Hopefully we will be open again tomorrow. Further updates to follow."

Severn Trent Water have released a statement saying the burst pipe is on the A44 Evesham Road in Lower Wolverton and "may be causing water supplies to be off or at low pressure for some of our customers".

"Our teams are in the area now and will work around the clock to get this pipe fixed and everything back to normal as quickly as possible.

"We know how difficult it is to have no water, especially during busy times of the day when you’re trying to get ready for work and school, and we’re very sorry for the disruption caused.

"During these emergency repairs it isn’t always possible to speak to our customers individually about what’s happening, so we'll keep this page up to date as we get information from our team.

"Unfortunately we do need to use traffic management to allow our teams to work safely and to keep road users safely away from the work area.

"Again we'd like to apologise for any disruption this may cause.

"If there’s anything we can do to help – we’d really like to hear from you. We’re available 24/7 on 0800 783 4444 or Tweet us @stwater."
