ATHLETICS legend Colin Jackson has organised a charity 5k run in Worcester with a wacky twist – participants will be wearing Y-fronts over their running kit.

The former 110m hurdles world champion will be in the city to start the Sanlam Go Dad Run, a fitness event designed to raise awareness of and funds for male health issues.

He will be joined by double Olympic sprint gold medallist Donovan Bailey and 400m hero Derek Redmond, as the male-only equivalent to Race For Life comes to Worcester for the first time.

Hundreds of men and boys are expected to take part in the run on Sunday, June 14, at Worcester Racecourse and raise vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

The Go Dad Run series of events is the brainchild of founder Colin Jackson, who set out to make a difference after he lost an uncle to prostate cancer.

He said: “I'm delighted that we are staging an event this year in Worcester and I'm thrilled that we are able to have a line up of three world champion athletes to be at the run.

“We've been getting great support from local runners and organisations such as the Worcester Warriors and their staff and players.

“We hope that several hundred men and boys will sign up, get sponsored and enjoy a really great Sunday morning run at the racecourse so that all the guys in the family can share some time together.

“And, of course, we hope that all the wives, mums and daughters will be there to cheer them on.”

Colin Jackson founded Go Dad Run in 2013 after the death in his family.

He was shocked to learn that one in eight men in the UK develops prostate cancer - a figure that that rises to one in four for men of a black African and Caribbean background - and decided to help tackle the problem.

Inspired by the success of Race For Life, he put on a pilot event in 2013 and has grown the project to six runs this year, which includes Worcester.

He is now hoping dads and sons, brothers and uncles, friends and neighbours, work colleagues and teammates will all get involved and make the inaugural Worcester run, which is sponsored by financial firm Sanlam UK, a big success.

Entry costs £15 for adults and £10 for 11 to 17-year-olds.

All runners will receive a pair of the Sanlam Y-fronts and a Puma t-shirt before the race and a medal and goodie bag on reaching the finish line.
