A NATIONAL charity working to end child abuse is calling on people in Worcestershire to help out by cheering on people participating in fundraising events.

As part of this week’s Volunteers’ Week the NSPCC – the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children – has made the unusual call for people who would like to support the charity but do not have a lot of free time to come along to one of the various events it runs across the country and cheer on those taking part.

The organisation is also appealing for anyone who would like to help events run smoothly by manning refreshment stalls, setting up stands or taking photographs to get in touch.

The charity’s head of fundraising for the Midlands Deborah Chandos-Hall said these events needed volunteers to help them run smoothly and ensure those taking part could raise as much money as possible.

“We know that there are lots of people out there who want to volunteer for the NSPCC but just can’t commit to anything regular because of their family and work commitments,” she said.

“By giving us a couple of hours two or three times a year they really can make a big difference to the children that we work to protect.”
