THE May meeting was for the AGM and the resolutions.

Madeline gave details of the resolution to be put forward for voting at the AGM in June.

Elderly people need long term care to stay in their own homes and each authority has different forms of funding. At the WI members propose that a co-ordinated system be put together to provide NHS continuing care, everyone agreed to the proposal and the delegate will vote at the National.

So it was AGM time again and the new table cloth was ready. Ann Lyons agreed to stay as President as long as she had a back up and Angie agreed to be her assistant for the coming year. Ann has gained in confidence over the past year and gave an address in prose form thanking everyone for their support.

Jenny reminded members of all the activities they have been involved with over the last year.

Yvonne the treasurer had kept the books in good order and finances are ok.

On June 4 members will be able to watch the National AGM from the Royal Albert Hall, they will make a day of it taking our lunch food and drinks to Jenny’s as she has mastered the technology to screen it live on her TV.

Callow End WI have a talk on June 4 at their meeting on the subject of Callow End and Powick and everyone is invited.

At the recent 100th anniversary celebrations of the WI a meal with a speaker was organised at The Warrior’s ground at Five Ways and the speaker was Michael Portillo. He gave a two-part talk, the first about his political career and having been an advisor to Margaret Thatcher then he spoke of his life in the media. Members enjoy his railway programmes where he travels the whole of UK and Europe with his Bradshaw’s Guide and the new series will be in America. Michael is also involved with a late night discussion programme but most have gone to bed by that time.

The Severn Group meeting at Earls Croome was a talk on Cider with Rosie.

This year members will not be organising a Strawberry Tea but have booked the Orchard Club on September 12 for a sale to celebrate the 100th anniversary and the Century Garden Party for the Severn Group will be on August 19 at Hanley Swan.

The annual Skittles Match with the RBL will be on Friday, August 21 at 8pm and there is also a Tea Party in the village hall on Sunday, July 19 organised by the friends of Powick Church.

The next meeting will be on June 10 and the subject will be Flowers.
