A LUCKY Worcester Warriors supporter had a double delight this week – after his side won promotion and he was handed his favourite player's boots.

Luke Sloane, aged 11, who has special needs, was left "over the Moon" after the promotion-clinching victory and the kindness of Warrior Chris Pennell.

Luke, who suffers from ADHD and other issues, was at the thrilling match against Bristol at Sixways on Wednesday with his dad Tony.

After the game Pennell, who scored two tries and was named man of the match, offered Luke his footwear from the match – which the youngster gleefully accepted.

They now have pride of place in Abbey Park Middle School pupil Luke's bedroom.

His dad, aged 50, said: "Chris headed straight over to Luke after the game, which we couldn't believe.

"They'd just won the Championship and all that was going on around him and he still found the time to come over.

"Luke gave Chris a big hug and the expression on his face was amazing.

"Luke was crying 10 minutes before the end of the game because he thought we were going to lose and then crying at the end.

"But when he got the boots he was over the Moon.

"He left them on the shelf in his bedroom right where he looks over to when he's sleeping."

The family have got to know Pennell through their dealings with New Hope in the past.

But Mr Sloane said he was still gobsmacked that the star full-back made a beeline for his son after the match, after Pennell's last-minute try all but secured promotion for the Warriors.

He explained: "Luke was always there at the end of every game looking for autographs and at one of them – halfway through last season – he was shouting to Chris and he threw him a ball.

"Unfortunately one of the dads then threw it back!

"A couple of weeks later he went over to Chris and said what had happened and he said 'come over to me at the end of the season and I'll try to find a ball for you'.

"And sure enough he did."

Mr Sloane paid tribute to Pennell, who he said was "a really top guy and so down to earth".

"We've been over there watching matches and he always comes over and says hello to the fans."
