AN EX-servicemen’s club in Worcester is holding a range of events over the Bank Holiday weekend in aid of a city hospice.

The weekend of fun at Barbourne Ex-Servicemen’s Club in The Moors will kick off at 8pm on Friday, May 22 with a charity gig, with proceeds going to St Richard’s Hospice, followed by a performance from Mark Drew from BBC One’s The Voice the following day.

The club will also hold a family fun day in aid of the hospice from midday on Sunday, May 24, with stalls, attractions and a disco.

Committee chairman Terry Robshaw said he and other members of the club wanted to raise money for St Richard’s in memory of friends who had benefitted from the charity’s work.

“In recent years we have had a number of members who have suffered from cancer,” he said.

“Some have recovered from this devastating illness to go on to lead normal lives but unfortunately quite a few have not made it.

“Last year our chosen charity was Cancer Research UK and we raised over £1,200 from two events.

“This year the committee decided to nominate a local charity, St Richard’s Hospice, which cares for those with cancer and other life threatening conditions.

“With the support of members and visitors we hope to be able to raise even more this year.”
